6 individual strains were obtained from the different locations. The strains produced hydrogen sulfide gas. To determine the substrate from which hydrogen sulfide gas is evolved the various stains were inoculated on the substrate medium like L-cysteine, thiourea, thiolactic acid and sodium thiosulphate.
Substrate | pH 8.1 | pH 9 | pH 9.1 |
L-Cysteine | 4+ | 4+ | 4+ |
Thiourea | + | - | + |
Thiolactic acid | +/- | - | - |
Sodium thiosulphate | 2+ | + | - |
